A structured six-week course aimed at complete beginners to Aikido
If you're thinking of starting Aikido, or would like to give it a try, this is an ideal opportunity.
The course covers some of the basics of the art, and is taught by experienced instructors in a friendly and relaxed setting.
You will be introduced to core techniques, and through them explore some of the principles of Aikido.
You'll start to discover things like why posture is more important than strength, or why timing is more important than speed. You'll get a sense of how it is that a martial art can find peaceful solutions to the ordinary conflicts of daily life, or show you ways to achieve what you need without engaging in confrontation.
By the end of the course you will have a useful understanding of what Aikido is. Whether or not you decide to continue with us after the six weeks, you will have learned enough to practise with any other club.
And whatever you do, you will find that some of the Aikido lessons you have learned are helpful in your life.
It's very nice to be young, strong, fit and agile, but you don't need to be any of these things to practise Aikido. Aikido is kind to the body, and you will be encouraged to practise at a pace and in a way that you find safe and comfortable.
There is no upper age limit. Unless you're in your 80s, you won't be the oldest person in our club. However, young people under the age of 16 will only be able to take part if accompanied by a parent.
You won't need any special equipment or clothing to take part (a tracksuit or jogging trousers and sweatshirt or similar will be perfectly adequate).
You're almost certainly going to have fun.
Classes will be held at Chapter Arts Centre on Monday evenings, 20.00 to 22.00.
The fee for the course is £30, payable at the first class.
Places will be strictly limited to ensure a high teacher-student ratio.
Please get in touch if you'd like to know more; we'll be happy to answer any questions.
Once you have decided you'd like to attend, please complete our registration form.
And remember, even if you can't attend this course, don't let that put you off giving Aikido a try on some other occasion. Beginners are always welcome to join us, at any time.
